History of Thai Massage

Nuat phaen boran is the Thai name for a type of body work native to Thailand (nuat=massage, phaen=manner, boran=ancient). It short for the longer form "Phaen Boran Raksaa Thaang Nuat Thai". This may be loosly translated as "the traditional methods of hands-on healing of the Thai people". Thai massage is also known as northern-style Thai massage, Buntautuk style, Old Medicine Hospital Style, traditional Thai massage, Traditional Thai Medical Massage, Thai Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage, yoga massage, Thai classical massage, Thai bodywork, passive yoga, or assisted yoga.
Aroma Oil Massage
Today’s Thai Aroma oil massage is a combination of Thai and Western massage techniques. The procedure is basically identical to traditional Thai massage, but some techniques are not used because the body gets slippery. Oils used for the treatment are formulated according to the guest’s needs and mood. Different volatile oils have different impacts on the body, thus contributing to the treatment of physical and mental complaints (e.g. relaxing, purifying, detoxing, refreshing effect, it may relax the muscles, firming the skin and strengthening the nervous system).
FOOT MASSAGE
Foot massage is one of the most unbelievably relaxing treats that you can give yourself or others. The ultimate study of foot massage is reflexology. Foot reflexology is "pressure therapy" and involves applying focused pressure to certain known reflex points located in the foot to cure or prevent disease. Foot reflexology is based on the premise that our nerve zones or reflex points go from the bottom of our feet to the top of our head, encompassing all vital organs on the way. A trained reflexologist can put pressure on different meridiens or energy lines on the sole and side of the feet to determine the cause of illness.
THE HISTORY OF THAI HERBAL MASSAGE
Used for centuries in Thailand, the Thai herbal ball (compress) treatments are based on the central pillar of Oriental medicine. The therapist delivers a therapeutic treatment as they follow the Sen Sib lines (= a map of the nervous system) while moving their client into a state of deep relaxation. Reaching back through the centuries, the Thai herbal compress remains unchanged since Thailand’s Ayuthaya period (14th-18th century) when the medicinal packs of herbs was administered to soldiers, war-weary between battles.
Filled with a blend of select herbs and following the recipe used at Wat Po in Bangkok, the Thai herbal ball (compress) is heated to release the healing qualities of each herb .
